The report also points out Taiwan will have super seniors by 2026 when the proportion of elderly population exceeds 20%. The increase in the elderly population has not only expanded the number of silver-haired people, but also continuous advancement of biotechnology allows elderly people to look younger and healthier than in the past. The new generation of senior citizens, especially those with high level of education and wealth, do not like to be restrained. They have no concept of raising children to provide for them in their later years. They prefer to live alone after divorce or being widowed.
An increasing number of seniors are facing the situation of having to live independently. As economic resources and interpersonal relationships diminish, the elderly embrace longevity while suffering loneliness. Living alone disassociates them from society. Ageing should not limit someone’s sense of ability or intelligence. More of the elderly population now over 60 is wealthy and technologically competent. They care about chronic disease, aging symptoms and typical struggles of living. But because of their wealth and familiarity with the Internet, they have expanded their desire for life, sports, social support and leisure activities. They enjoy more of life. They need others’ social support while aging. Traditional care narrows life expectancy and psychological needs of the modern seniors. Older care methods ignore seniors’ idA study by the UK Mutual Help Circle explores the possibility of taking care of modern super seniors named the “double silver group.” Through in-depth interviews, the study addressed the possibility of establishing a smart platform for elderly in the local community. This project intends to present available services that can assist seniors. It is recommended that senior citizens remain living in a familiar location and use the Internet and applications provided by the smart platform to meet the needs of life and social support. Allowing the seniors to live independently enriches their lives by providing activities, and increasing interpersonal interactions in the community. It would create a community with a strong relationship by caring for others. Seniors hoping to live in such a friendly and hospitable environment would thus delay their time of hospitalization or nursing home stay. They would be able to age in the comfort and happiness of their home until the end of life.eal lives.
