The proposed charger uses the current-mode control converter as the basic architecture and adopts constant current and constant voltage (CC-CV) dual modes to achieve battery charging process. A complete Li-ion battery charging process also includes trickle current (TC) charging stage. However, the converter has to operate in DCM in TC stage and results in lower average charging current. In this thesis, linear regulator is used in trickle current mode. It provides a small and stable current to increase the charging speed in TC stage. For the application of wireless sensor nodes with energy harvesting, its battery pack consists of multiple small cells. Each battery cell has different aging characteristics because of manufacturing tolerances. The aged cells may affect the operation of the entire battery pack. The proposed battery resistance detector senses the aged cell while charging.
