碩士 === 真理大學 === 財務與精算學系碩士班 === 106 === The tourism industry has become an important sector in Taiwan’s economy due to the country’s unique topography and regional location. This study discusses the impact of worldwide economic factors on Asian, American, and European tourist consumption in Taiwan and identifies possible factors affecting that consumption. As variables, we selected tourism consumption, average gross domestic product (GDP), purchasing power parity (PPP), Taiwan’s exchange rate, tourism density, degree of openness, and unemployment rate, using the econometrics model of panel data. The period of study was from 2003 to 2013. Empirical results showed that the panel-corrected standard errors model was better at determining estimates for small, simple data. Tourism density, Taiwan’s exchange rate, average GDP, PPP, and unemployment rate had a significant impact on tourism consumption. For Asian, American, and European tourists, degree of openness had a significant negative impact on tourism consumption.
