Taiwanese tea culture has undergone a multitude of political, economic and social transitions over the years, assimilating various cultural influences along the road to its current splendour. The origins of Taiwanese tea culture stemmed from the Chaoshan gong-fu style of tea preparation, which was brought to Taiwan and influenced by the aesthetics and philosophy of the Japanese tea ceremony. These traditions were nurtured and given new life in Taiwan, manifesting anew in the spontaneous activity of tea drinking. In turn Taiwanese tea culture grew into something that Chinese region tea drinkers wanted to learn about. The interaction and exchange of tea culture across the Taiwan Strait is continuously developing: this thread in the fabric of Taiwanese tea culture is the motivation for this study. Finding the core values of Taiwanese tea culture and exploring the trajectory of the influence Taiwanese tea culture upon that of Chinese region is the goal of this research. Taiwanese tea culture was nourished by the rejuvenation of Chinese culture that occurred in the 1970s, resulting in many unique innovations. The development of tea ware became the crux of Taiwanese tea art. The invention of the tea pitcher or jug changed centuries of tea etiquette, and the use of Taiwanese style aroma smelling twin cups was etched in history when Putin shared tea with Hu Jintao in Xiamen. This article will use literary sources to explore the development of Taiwanese tea culture and then investigate its core values. This researcher is a disseminator and recorder of tea culture: through methods of observation and discussion, using focus groups and in depth interviews to discover and analyse the innovations of Taiwanese tea ware, tea ceremony set ups, the various styles of tea events and the aesthetics of tea and the influence they have upon the Chinese region.
