Department of Healthcare Management Yuanpei University of Medical Technology Abstract Chronic diseases are the one of the major of medical expenses in Taiwan’s health insurance, and the truth that importance of decrease in average age of patients should not be underestimated. There was a lot of discussions and researches about “chronic diseases” or “vitamins”, however, the topic that “using the high dose of vitamins to prevent from the chronic diseases” was less be mentioned. It was one of reasons that had the author want to research deeply. Through analyzing the empirical cases about the “Orthomolecular medicine”, the author hope this research can help people to build a healthy life style and prevent or treat chronic diseases by taking vitamins. The purpose of the research was to discover the relationship between chronic disease prevention and vitamins. Modified Delphi Method (Blow, A. J. & Sprenkle, D. H. 2001) was adopted to collect the data. It made the topic of the study more specific and clear by the questionnaire surveys for some experts in related fields, especially combined consensus of experts in medical, pathology, nutrition, and biological technology on "taking high dose vitamins to prevent chronic diseases”. Additionally, the results of this study will be promoted to apply to preventive medicine. To confirm the important item of opinion of experts, the author adopted Delphi method (Murry &Hommons, 1993) to investigate each item, and organize the important one on "taking high dose vitamins to prevent chronic diseases”. Besides, the questionnaire was designed for ease to understand and based on 3-points Likert’s scale. It was sent out to physicians, pharmacists, nurses, nutritionists, and biological technology experts, and then filled out the questionnaire. The questionnaire surveys was analyzed by Content Validity Ratio (CVR, Lawshe, 1975) to confirm effectiveness of the experts’ opinions. According to CVR analysis, there was forty-nine items that the numerical value was more than or equal to 0.49. To verify similarity of the experts, it was adopted to analysis of Interquartile range (Faherty, V. 1979 and Holden, M.C. & Wedman, J.F. 1993). By descriptive statistics, the chronic disease prevention was a correlate of the human gender, age, education, and the habits of taking vitamins, because of checking each item of effect which taking vitamins to prevent chronic disease by using SPSS. There were five parts in the consensus of the study in which were fifty-one items included. The result revealed that the chronic disease prevention was correlated with taking vitamins.
