Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系 === 105 === In 2012, The Font Labs released the Font Studio-5 in Asian version, which gives graphic designers a new opportunity to design digital fonts by their own. They are two main application questions of the Traditional Chinese fonts. First, in the past several years, less different options of the traditional Chinese fonts are available. Second, the speed of development the Traditional Chinese fonts are slow. So this study aims to ad-dress a series of technical methods in font design, and give designers freedoms to de-velop fonts by software. Therefore, this study started from research reading and interviewed with experts of font-design, collected speeches, then turn the qualitative research into the basic of the grounded theory of‘ The development and application of the new font design.’ The second step of development a new type of font design, we choose 73 characters which is combined with 28 elements from 2 to 29 strokes of the 400-basic-characters. Take ‘the Microsoft Jheng Hei’as a treatment group, we design another font called ‘modified Microsoft JhengHei ’as a open type control group. The third step is to value and test the new set of the font design. After we take the heuristic evaluation from ex-perts, modify, adjust and take usability evaluation to test visual centroid and the value of the grey scale. This study showed the value of the grey scale is 22% of the first stroke, but when it adds each more strokes, t grows 1.003%. The best visual edition with more than 23th strokes is 50% of the value of the grey scale. This research expects to learn from the experience of font development and design, share the technical details with more indi-vidual font designers, and popularize the font design knowledge to promote the contin-uous improvement of traditional Chinese font design.
