Despite their popularity, little research was conducted to understand and exploit the marketing opportunities brought forth by them. In addition, previous research on modern social media mainly focused on the younger generation. Such studies on senior citizens were relatively sparse. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to explore the patterns of pictures circulated by senior citizens with instant message applications. We also aimed to identify their photo sharing behaviors. LINE was selected as the research platform for its popularity among senior citizens in Taiwan. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed to analyze the collected data, 1361 pictures. The results of the study are listed as follows. (1) The type of most shared picture is “Good morning” picture. (2) Morning (from 5 AM to 11:49 AM) is the most active picture sharing time period. (3) Elderly users tend to convey information to receivers via picture messages instead of text messages. Finally, senior citizens are active users of instant messaging applications and marketing opportunities exist for practitioners to seize. CHIAO, CHIN-PU 焦錦濮 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 48 en_US |
