The purpose of this study is to systematically reconstruct the Howard mechanical tower clock (No.0 strike). According to a study of the relevant literature, in progress reconstruction research and reconstruction manufacturing, a "Howard Mechanical Tower Clock (No.0 strike)" is used as a case study to illustrate this procedure. The process includes the reparation of ancient machinery and providing a systematic description of ancient mechanical principles. In addition to the reconstruction of Howard Mechanical Tower Clock, 3D solid modeling with CAD software Autodesk Inventor and prototypes for verifying the design results were developed and implemented. This work introduces two new designs for mechanical tower clock automatic calibration and an automatic winding system. Automatic calibration system: change the structure of the pendulum, the original pendulum pull out into the bar, ball screw, and stepper motor, with the use of a motor control lever to adjust the position of the pendulum center of gravity, calculated by the computer time error value of time compensation to achieve the purpose of timekeeping. Automatic winding system: the system determines the weight on the chain time, so that the mechanical clock drive wheel will maintain a bit of energy; energy will be released through the escapement to the power transmission system. A mechanical clock using automatic calibration system after four automatic adjustments can reach the accuracy of 0.001 seconds, with mechanical clock time and system (absolute) time error value of 0.008%. The mechanical clock has two drive wheels using the same automatic winding system, with total travel of 157mm available when the system drive wheel uses ten minutes of power, and the timekeeping system drives the wheel clock 12 times.
