In order to achieve variable gain and eliminate differential output offset, variable gain amplifiers and DC offset cancellation networks are employed in the optical receivers. A CMOS optical receiver of this thesis has a variable-gain range from 62.1dBΩ to 97.8dBΩ. With a 0.5pF Photodiode Capacitance, f-3dB is 1.37GHz at its maximum gain, and 1.61GHz at its minimum gain.
