Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工業設計系 === 105 === For professional repairmen, handtools are not only the tools for living but also the painting brush for the work. However, the research conducted by ergonomist Wang ,Mao Jun indicates that the frequency of cumulative occupational injuries has skyrocketed due to high specialization of work. A considerable percentage results from handtool use. The statistics suggests that there is large room for improvement on handtool design.
The research applies the participatory design into performance-based instruction. Students' work act as a perfect medium for three parties: users, manufacturers, and designers. Not only can students acquire the stakeholders' knowledge through the tripartite discussion, but they can also enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the effect of participatory design..
Yelman et.al(2015) suggest that designer should cooperate with user.To do so.We practice participatory design in university second grade project by holding work-shop.We invite motorcycle shop owner、car shop owner、bycicle owner and plumbers/eletricians to join us doing hand tools design. Also,we invite tool producers and working designers as teachers to help students. We invesgate how they communicate with each other to improof participatory design as a process that company can adapt in new product development.
We consult the result of Weng et. al’s(2007) research that doing participatory design and field investigation at the same time, and we adjust it to two steps process.First we let student do field research by using half-structured interview and visit tool factory to understand how the tools are made.Than we invite working designers lead student expanding their ideas in the work-shop.
The study apply the participatory design into performance-based instruction. Students work acted as a perfect medium for three parties: users, manufacturers, and designers. Not only can students acquire the stakeholders' knowledge through the tripartite discussion, but students can enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the effect of participatory design.
