Solving facility layout problem will yield different result of layout by different solving objective and need. The main objective on this study is to minimize the total material cost of between different facilities and between different locations of gateways to facilities. The plant, department facility, gateway will be positioned by coordinate. In addition, a mathematical model for the layout problem will be developed. The mathematical model will then be tested to see if it has feasible solution. An algorithm is also developed in this research to solve the model. At the end of this research, Taguchi method is adopted to find the best parameters sets of each facility layout problems. The results will be used to search if gateway had a significantly effect on our main objective. The experiment result shows the proposed method can significantly improve the layout performance.
