Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 藝術治療碩士學位學程 === 105 === This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and application of different materials and media in art therapy. The study intended to explore and understand participants’ experiences in interacting with art materials and media, which may involve the sensual experiences, recollection and reflections of personal life experiences, and the internal and interactive occurrence during art making. An eight-session art therapy workshop group was designed for participants to experience and experiment with both common and novel art materials. Each session lasted three hours. Fifteen mental health professionals, all having at least two years of experiences in practicing psychotherapy, were included through public recruitment. Qualitative data were collected through two focus groups taken place after the final group session for subsequent data analysis. The process and findings of data analysis were as follows: Seven materials and media were selected for further exploration and investigation based on participants’ feedbacks in the focus group. These materials included magazine collage, clay and modeling, doll making, salt and glue painting, paste finger painting, and plaster bandage art. Participants’ experiences were elucidated in three dimensions, namely, their sensual experiences, life experiences, and the art making process. The sensory of the current study’s interest ranged from vision, hearing, smell, sense and feelings, to the kinesthetic. The life experiences under exploration included participants’ previous experiences in art making and creation, their perceptions on art materials and media and utilization, their past memories and personal preferences. Finally, the workshop design and arrangement, the leaders’s personal and professional style, and the group dynamic were all examined. Dendrograms were made for each materials to present a brief, synthetic summary of their characteristics in all three dimension. Finally, reflections and suggestions were made for future research and advancement in practices in related fields based on findings of the current research.
