In particular, the technique on backhand receiving is becoming increasingly important with the influence of the above factors. Nowadays, the technique on receiving has made a breakthrough from the traditional concept of forehand as the main choice. Players now weigh forehand and backhand with equal importance or receiving with backhand sidespin within right two third of table. The purpose of this research is to discuss the evolution process of receiving technique and the backhand receiving behavior of world top male table tennis players. The research takes the top 4 male single players in the Summer Olympic Games from 2012 to 2016 as subjects. The research takes Video Observation to record the behavior of forehand and backhand receiving and the utilization rates of backhand receiving. Use descriptive statistics and chi-square test for data analysis to discuss the backhand receiving trend in recent years and compare the difference of backhand receiving utilization rates in the top 4 male single players in the Summer Olympic Games from 2012 to 2016. The research yielded the following results:
1. The frequency of backhand receiving increases within the top male players in the Summer Olympic Games from 2012 to 2016.
2. The backhand-related receiving frequency gets high in drop shot and sidespin within the top male players in the Summer Olympic Games from 2012 to 2016
3. The percentage of forehand and backhand receiving within the top male players in the Summer Olympic Games from 2012 to 2016 reaches significant difference.
4. The discussion that the percentage of backhand-related receiving within the top male players in the Summer Olympic Games from 2012 to 2016 reaches significant difference.
