Mid-school students in Taipei City were adopted as the research object, as well as used the questionnaire survey method with applying the “Questionnaire of Taipei City Mid-school Students’ Physical Self-concept and Attitude toward Sports” as the research tool. 720 copies of questionnaire were sent out and 688 valid copies returned and collected with a valid return rate of 95.56%. Applied SPSS For Windows 20.0, the Statistical Software Package, to conduct data analysis, as well as used several statistical methods, such as Descriptive Statistics, Independent-Sample t-Test, One-way ANOVA, Repeated-measures One-way ANOVA, Fisher's Least Significant Difference (LSD) and Scheffe Post Hoc test, to analyze the data collected. Research results showed: 1. Physical self-concept can be divided into 6 factors: “body figure” with the highest recognition level of students, and the followings are “endurance”, “flexibility”, “physical strength”, “appearance” and “power”, which the “power” factor possesses the lowest recognition level; attitude toward sports can be divided into 3 factors: “cognition” with the highest recognition level of students, the next is “affection”, and “behavioral intention” factor possesses the lowest recognition level. 2. With different background variables, mid-school students’ physical self-concept showed a significant difference in different genders, grades, sports clubs attended, weekly exercise frequency and single exercise time; for their attitude toward sports, it showed a significant difference in different genders, grades, sports clubs attended, weekly exercise frequency and single exercise time. 3. It reached a significant moderately positive correlation between their physical self-concept and attitude toward sports. Abstract
This study was to investigate related situations of mid-school students’ cognition in physical self-concept and attitude toward sports in Taipei City, as well as compared the differences in their physical self-concept and attitude toward sports with different background variables.
