The effect of Kinesio taping on core muscle functions in patients with low back pain

Methods: We recruited 30 patients with LBP (41.47 ± 8.27 yrs, 164.73 ± 7.78 cm, 63.33 ± 8.73 kg), and assigned to lumbar instability (LI, n = 10) and non-lumbar instability group (NI, n = 20) according to their performance of passive lumbar extension test (PLET). Both groups used KT applied to erector spinae in 24 hours. Assessment was conducted at baseline, immediately after the KT, and 24-hour after the KT. The core muscle functional tests included: (1) pain scale, (2) health-back tests, (3) trunk flexion-extension test, (4) functional reach test, (5) transverse abdominis muscle endurance test, (6) double-leg lowering test, and (7) Y-balance test. Results: In this study, we observed that transverse abdominis muscle endurance in LI group (4.40 ± 1.88 rep.) was significantly lower than that in NI group (6.25 ± 3.43 rep.) (p < .05) at baseline, meaning the muscle endurance of transverse abdominis in LI group was weak than that of NI. The pain scale and the result of double-leg lowering test were significantly improved in both groups at immediately and 24-hour after the KT (p < .05), but there was no significant difference between both groups. The result of Y-balance test was also improved in both groups at immediately after the KT, and the distance of functional reach was significantly increased in LI group at 24-hour after the KT (p < .05). Conclusion: We demonstrated that the positive effect of KT on erector spinae in pain status and lumbar stability in patients with LBP, and the effectiveness could be maintained at least 24 hours after KT application. 陳永盛 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 100 zh-TW
