The “Pearl Roundel” shaped ornament was one of the earliest types and had lasted for a long time with different degrees of transformations that had been gradually substituted by other forms or materials in the late periods. The developmental trajectory of these objects differed from that of Chinese ritual bronzes yet did have closer relationship with metal ornaments of the Eurasian steppes. Therefore, where did they origin and how did these ornaments developed and transformed are the main focuses of observation in this study. There are five chapters in this study: The first chapter is the introduction which includes the research motivation, review of related essays, the methods and limitation of this study. The second chapter gets into classification of the “Pearl Roundel” shaped ornaments and their developmental trajectories in Northern China, and in the third chapter goes to the sequential order of the ornaments and tries to investigate how they were used by observing the burial conditions of these objects. After analyzing the archaeological distribution of “Pearl Roundel” shaped ornaments in Northern of China, the fourth chapter takes into consideration similar ornaments of the Eurasian Steppes, and compares them with those from Northern China. It hows that “Pearl Roundel” shaped ornaments of these two areas were different in design concept, assemblages and decorative expression, furthermore, the pearl roundel’s shape was used as decorative pattern on textile afterwards. The last chapter is the conclusion which discusses the origin and development of the “Pearl Roundel” shaped ornaments, illustrates how their appearance in related to the hierarchical, sexual and environment divergence, and, put forward the issues remain to be discussed in the future. 黃翠梅 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 353 zh-TW
