Conventional lancing devices pierce 2-6 times into the skin, which results in severe pain. This study provides two types of innovative high-speed lancing device: a high-speed lancing device and a high-speed safety lancet. The mechanism of the high-speed lancing device is the lancets high speed movement through the application of the impact theory. Many tests were conducted to compare performance between the innovative high-speed lancing devices of this study and several other commercially available lancing devices. Testing results show that the time required for the needle of the innovative high-speed lancing device to go into and out of the skin is only about one quarter the time needed by the commercially available lancing devices. More significantly, the high-speed lancing devices pierce into the skin just once, unlike conventional lancing devices which pierce 2-6 times into the skin. For the high-speed lancing devices needle tip, the maximum instantaneous velocity of is 1.95 times, the average velocity is 1.5 times, and the acceleration is 5.8 times that of the conventionally available lancing devices. The highest puncture force of the innovative high-speed lancing device is only one third of the traditional ones, reducing 20% of the wounded area. Such difference can greatly reduce the time needed by the needle of the high-speed lancing device to stay in contact with the skin and the wounded area, thus reducing the pain suffered during the puncture process and reducing the time needed for wound healing, which provides a more user-friendly tool for the self-monitoring of blood glucose for diabetic patients.
Furthermore, the time required for the needle of the high-speed safety lancet to go into and out of the skin is only about one third the time needed by the commercially available safety lancets. Similar to the the high-speed lancing devices, the high speed safety lancets pierce into the skin just once, unlike conventional safety lancets which pierce many times into the skin. For the high-speed safety lancetss needle tip, the maximum instantaneous velocity of is 1.92 times, the average velocity is 1.3 times, and the acceleration is 6.8 times that of the conventionally available safety lancets. The highest puncture force of the innovative high-speed safety lancets is only two thirds of the traditional ones, reducing 12% of the wounded area. Such difference can greatly reduce the time needed by the needle of the lancing device to stay in contact with skin and the wounded area, thus reducing the pain suffered during the puncture process and reducing the time needed for wound healing, which provides a more user-friendly tool for the self-monitoring of blood glucose for diabetic patients.
