Since the development of 3C (Computers/Communications/Consumer) technology has been expanding rapidly, the main focus on the design of laptops, tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices has becoming being lightweight and thin. Therefore, many of the input/output connectors of mobile devices were removed. This phenomenon created the demand of external connecting devices, and gave birth to peripherals such as single-function adapters and multi-function docking stations. Docking station plays the role of data transmission, and integration of various functions. It will become an indispensable computer peripheral product for consumers, because of its great convenience and benefit to the users. This kind of product is different from other research we frequently find, so I feel it’s worthy to discuss and research. This thesis consists of three parts. First, discuss the topic of the study based on the relevant literature reviews Secondly, proceed with case analysis; and thirdly, conclude with competitive strategy. This thesis is to analyze and demonstrate the business model and competition strategy of docking stations. One listed company at over-the-counter market, the G company is used as the main research subject. We try to use the industrial existing scenario of G company’s past business model, product development strategy, SWOT & Porter’s five forces analysis, and value net analysis to discuss business direction, through internal and external environmental analysis and competitive strategy analysis, and use strategic analysis point of view, as well as to interview with experts, and to discuss G company’s future development at docking station field. Meanwhile, this thesis is to discuss the industrial dynamics and business developing strategy. We noticed the function of docking station has became more and more completed due to rapid growth of mobile devices. In the last decade, we found such kind of phenomenon occurred at many products and industries. Thus, we hope that we will find a promising developing strategy and business model for relative industries reference through case study.
