It can reduce peak to average power ratio (PAPR) significantly in the OFDM system with the same bit error rate. However, CI-OFDM systems are also sensitive to frequency synchronization error. A slight carrier frequency offset (CFO) can result in inter-carrier interference (ICI) which dramatically increases bits error rate of the system. Therefore, this thesis proposes and derivates eigenvalue-based carrier frequency offset estimation method for CI-OFDM systems. Using computer simulations, we analyze the performance of this method in CI-OFDM systems over various channels by the form of both training sequences and pilot symbols. Finally, we compare the performance of our method in CI-OFDM systems with the performance of the eigenvalue-based CFO estimation method in OFDM systems.
