The aging society has become a major issue in globe. Dementia occurs mainly in older people. In 2016, there are more than 26 million people with dementia in Taiwan. On an average, one of every 100 people is with dementia. Cognitive function of dementia patients severely degrade. Dementia patients are prone to get lost. In long-term care institutes, caregivers usually have to spend a lot of time to find dementia patients. We have designed a resident positioning system for long-term care institutes. Every resident in the institutes wares an iBeacon bracelet that periodically sends beacon signals. Several iBeacon stations estimate the distances from the bracelet to themselves according to the energy level of the received beacon signal. The system then calculates the position of the bracelet by triangulation algorithm. With a friendly Web interface, the system shows the position of the bracelet, i.e., the resident, on the floor plan of the institutes. Thus, caregivers can easily and timely locate all residents in the institutes. The managers of the system can set dangerous regions. When residents are positioned in the dangerous regions by the system, an alert is issued so that caregivers can quickly reach the region to avoid accidents.
