Description
Summary:博士 === 東海大學 === 社會工作學系 === 105 === The Adjusting Process of Residential Institualization with Involuntary Adolescents From the ecological perspective, this study aim to understand the course of adjustment staying in residential institution, and how’s the adjustment and the residential experiences affect adolescent’s development. With the course of mutual interaction between people and the environment, it is to understand why adolescent leaves the institution and how he readjusts after re-entering. This study has two purposes. Firstly, try to study as from the adolescent point of view subjectively, during the course of leaving and to, the interaction and dynamics between the adolescent and the environmental factors, and how this affects his further development. Secondly, from adolescent experiences of staying and accommodate in residential institution, try to reflect possible issues on current counseling and placement intervention programs and policies implementation. With interpretive interactionism as the methodology, by carrying out in-depth interview with nine adolescents who have the experiences of leaving and returning to institution and to readjust under the placement intervention system. This study reveals adolescent goes through at least 4 times of transformation during the course of his life cycle. The first time leaving institution is due to the conflict of using authority power and the management issues, to seek for freedom and the fulfillment of intimacy. Another reason is a rational choice to survive from the immediate environment. In considering whether to re-enter again to placement institution, at the initial stage, the reasons influence are not to implicate his relatives, whether the environment is nutritive and supportive, worry about legal issues, and changing his mind. The turning point for staying happens when there the adolescent fit with the environment: show resilience, positive attachment and intimacy, empowerment from working part time, and the programs of the institution; the disproportion of power exchanged, and difficulties in building positive attachment will cause unfit between adolescent with the environment. At the later stage of staying, cognitive change, competent in role function, and the relationship network show influences. The labeling on adolescent due to his former leaving is also challenging for him to assimilate into again and to readjust. Lastly, the impact of staying and adjusting in residential institution has two main parts. One of them is the same institution has different meanings to different adolescents. Second is about the management issues, the proper use of power in institution has quite a big impact; setbacks can help one to grow and to present his resiliencies. From above findings, this study proposes reflection on the planning and execution of social work intervention and service delivery for involuntary adolescents.
