A series of 2-aminopyridine- and coumarin-fused derivatives were synthesized via visible light-mediated cyclization of 3-nitro-4-(quinazolin-4-ylmethyl)coumarins and their molecular structures were characterized by 1H and 13C spectra and X-ray crystal analysis. A possible mechanism for this visible light-mediated cyclization was proposed on the basis of experimental results. In addition, if the 3-nitro-4-(pyridin-2-ylamino)coumarins bear two nitrogen atoms on 2-aminoheterocyclic ring system, the resulting compounds were found to be highly sensitive to visible light and the cyclized products generally exhibit high fluorescent.
