Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 中國文學系 === 105 === On 15th year of Emperor Daoguang’s reign, Cai Tinglan (1801-1859)went Fuzhou to attend provincial exam for the third time. On the way back Taiwan, due to typhoon his ship accidentally drifted to Quang Ngai in Central Vietnam.With the help of Vietnamese official he managed to go back hometown by land.
Hainan Za Zhu as the product of this unexpected trip in Vietnam. Most research about Cai Tinglan and his works focused on his activity in Taiwan, Penghu and China or his biography. However, Cai Tinglan’s activity in Vietnam was rarely discussed in scholar paper, even if there is the content usually did not take references from Vietnam document, not to mentioned the comparison between both countries.
This paper mainly discusses about Vietnam history and culture written by Cai Tinglan in his book.This paper has six chapter and can divided into four part. Second chapter will introduce about history,geography and imperial examination system in Vietnam.Third chapter presents the results of on-site investigations——comparison between the location mentioned by Cai Tinglan in his books and its real appearance in reality.The fourth chapter will firstly introduce about Vietnam culture written in Hainan Za Zhu, for example food, wearing, transportation, accomodation, marriage, law, religion and story.After that,try to compare it with content recorded in Vietnam historical documents.The fifth chapter will focus on analyzing history、place name and imperial examination system of Vietnam through Vietnam historical document and Hainan Za Zhu. In order to maintain objectivity, this paper has included China historical documents as references.
In conclusion, due to different position, the historical part of Hainan Za Zhu has differences with China references. Besides, there are differences between Hainan Za Zhu and the real appearance shown by Vietnam nowadays. This is because Vietnam has involved in wars for two times after that , causes many building changing its appearances. As for the culture part, there are no big differences.
