In this situation, the health care issue of the elderly appears to be more important. In which the control of high blood pressure is an issue that people valued but fail to be actually implemented. Lifestyle is also a major factor that will affect people’s health. Therefore, this study had regarded high blood pressure and lifestyle as main targets, and investigated the effects of telecare which combines technology and medical knowledge on both of them.
In this study, data mainly provided by a telecare center of one regional hospital in central Taiwan had been analyzed and discussed. By comparing the data of the elderly before and after attending telecare services for one year, to see the differences of their health promoting lifestyle. In addition, participants who completed the whole service had been screened out and explored their blood pressure control situations. The whole process has been analyzed by SPSS 22.0 statistical software.
The results showed that the telecare services had no significant effect on the health promoting lifestyle of elderly. However, if the six sub-items of promoting lifestyle were examined separately, the exercise sub-item reached the significant level but the score showed slightly decline. Additionally, it can be found that there were slightly scores increasing of health responsibility and interpersonal relationship after carefully comparing the score before and after the implementation.
As for the blood control part. Only found that the telecare had significant help on systolic blood pressure control, the rest diastolic pressure and heart rate, neither of them reached statistically significant level. Even though, it was still found that monthly average measurements had decreased in every participant.
Overall, the telecare services still had certain degree of help to health promoting lifestyle and blood control of the elderly. Literature review showed that the final results was easily affected by age, education level…etc., so the different goals should be set for different age groups in future service implementation, in order to enhance the effectiveness of telecare services.
