Through literature review, the essay compiles the origins, meanings and applications of the four symbols, from the superficial to the in-depth excavation, and induces the literary meanings and symbolic meanings of the “four symbols” as well as the exploration of semiotics, totem worship and metaphoric design. Through the exploration of totem worship, the symbolic meaning and importance of it towards the social groups are comprehended, and they are transformed into the elements of creation through metaphoric design. The creative presentation is focused on the technique, while the process of manufacturing is recorded. After several experimental trials, the one that most fit the creator’s thinking and inspiration was opted. Then, the creative thinking was analyzed and integrated, and the concepts, presentation style, design thoughts, discussion and the pictures of each series of the works were shared. It is hoped that through this creation essay, not only can the design of the four mythological creatures, the Azure Dragon, the Vermilion Bird, the White Tiger, and the Black Turtle, be promoted, but also to integrate the applications of the creative concepts, allowing the ornaments to be the object of aesthetics, and to be enriched with feelings, meanings, and hopes.
