碩士 === 大仁科技大學 === 文化創意產業研究所 === 105 === Pingtung Airfield is the first airport in the history of Taiwan. After the Eighth Fighter Squadron of Japanese Army advanced into the field in the middle of Japanese ruled period, Pingtung Flight Dormitory had been constructed gradually and become the largest settlement for aviation purpose in Taiwan before the Second World War. From Japan’s rule to Nationalist Government, a special culture and landscape have been developed and formed the common memory for the locals. It is not only the last remaining complete historical texture in the old town, but also the key witness of Pingtung flight history in the last century. Pingtung County Council Cultural Department has been renovated and let the properties in the dormitory since 2011. As the results, the surrounding of Qingdao Street has been developed into well-known garden cafe district. The funding from the Ministry of Culture for Rebuild History Site in 2017 will provide certain support for renovation of the dormitory and future development. As the original tenant of Chongren Village, the researcher has been recording the findings during the investigations on the culture history of the dormitory group and recreation of unused space. Preservation and reconstruction of the dormitory have formed the center among the researcher’s concern. In this study, through in-depth interviews, arranging and participating public hearings, and collecting the views from industry, government and the public, the analysis has found that Pingtung Flight Dormitory group indeed have a profound historical background and characteristics. Although the scope and characteristics are certain for the dormitory group in the old town along with the direction in the preservation strategy to follow, there are still many issues on the future preservation and maintenance. This requires communication and cooperation between the public and the private sector to achieve multi-purpose development.
