Summary: | 碩士 === 南臺科技大學 === 教育領導與評鑑研究所 === 105 === The purpose of the study was to investigate not only the problems of applying CORI to teach regional geography in junior high school in class and attempts to solve them but also students’ learning experiences and their assessment of the curriculum.
Following the action research, two classes of 54 ninth-grade students in junior high from Tainan city were used as samples. The period of the courses was last for 10 lessons during 8 weeks. The researcher chose the units “North America” and “Central and South America” in the textbook to design courses. Research instruments included lesson plans, comprehensive reading strategy worksheets, interview records, classroom observation records and classroom video tape records, as well as the researcher’s own reflection records and CORI feedback sheets . These data included both qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Results indicated that: It’s able to enhance the learning and understanding of geographic concepts through the use of reading comprehension strategies, therefore applying the CORI method on teaching regional geography has a positive impact on student's learning outcomes. Applying CORI in teaching regional geography also affects students’ reading motives, use of strategies, learning of conceptual knowledge, and social interaction experiences.
Lastly, this study provides suggestions about comprehensive reading strategy
teaching methods as a reference for teachers and future researchers.
