The messages enabled players to flee away from reality temporarily and immerse themselves in virtual space so that they were impressed by the story. Nowadays, games in the market contained story element more or less in spite of their genres. With the increasing population of game players, the preferences for styles and themes on game plots were getting more and more diverse. Moreover, by the change of the trend, many unexpected themes and styles were recommended by players. Therefore, this study would focus on simulation game (SLG)—welcomed, ranked-fourth video game consoles, and the most diverse game genre—to investigate its structures, elements and performance of the story and players’ preferences for game plot genres. Through the in-depth interview with experts and questionnaires, we understood young players’ preferences for various game plot genres by taking SLG as an example. The findings of this study were summarized as the following: In plot elements, game characters, original story, and gameplay were valued by players. In plot frames, the comedy series structure could best meet players’ reading habits. In plot styles, adventure, science fiction and suspicion were players’ favorite. In plot genres, sword and magic, Western mythology, monster and evil, Japan warriors, European warriors, and thief and pirate could arouse players’ curiosity and catch their attention. The result of this study would be references for relevant studies on game plot in the future. It also provided suggestions for game developers in business and students from the related game departments in university to create game scripts SUN, CHIH-CHENG 孫志誠 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 96 zh-TW
