Summary:碩士 === 聖約翰科技大學 === 機械與電腦輔助工程系碩士班 === 105 === Education and society are tightly bound entities and hence cannot be separated from each other. With the advent of multimedia engineering, computers are now regarded as common devices for instruction purposes. In order to explore the effectiveness of two intervention procedures, the researcher purposely applied multimedia technology and group-recreation-activity into teaching separately. In this individual case design study, data were collected from four fourth-grade students who enrolled in remedial English courses. This research is going to explore (1) how group-recreation-activity works and influences students in remedial English courses, (2) how multimedia instruction works and influences students in remedial English courses. Using both qualitative and quantitative research methods, this research collected data through participant observation, photography, videotaping, questionnaires, alphabet tests, phoneme awareness tests, mid-term and final exams. The result goes to (1) the group-recreation-activity and multi-media can both strengthen students’ alphabet and phoneme awareness abilities, (2) except instructional strategies, teaching materials and tools also influence students’ learning, and for remedial students, materials related to textbooks should be strengthen, (3) understanding the characteristics and self-identification of each individual case helps instructor to adjust the teaching materials and method; for example, group-recreation-activity can increase interaction between classmates and at the same time help individual develop his/her own complex skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as for multimedia, it is a good tool for individuals to do basic or repetitive practices.
