The existence of the super star makes the effect of heterogeneity appeared more clear and specific. In the wake of the closer attention tennis received in Taiwan, and the detailed information of players and athletes’ performance provided by professional sport, this study takes the international men's professional tennis players as the objects of the research accordingly, and explores the influence of superstar effect on athlete’s performance. The study takes the data from 2003 to 2014 of the grand slam singles from the Association of Tennis Professionals as sample, and excludes the data of the unfinished matches due to the omission or athlete’s injury. The study first applied the ordinary least square method to make a simple estimate, then employed the Breusch-Pagan test model to examine the heterogeneity problem and provide an estimate. According to the empirical result, there is an obvious negative relationship among the effect of the star, individual performance and the total effort level of both sides under the control of the influencing factors, including the capability disparity of the athletes, age and BMI. Besides, its influential impact is higher than the other variables. Furthermore, the rank-order-based reward system will improve the performance of the athlete and increase the total effort level of both sides. On the other hand, the heterogeneity among the athletes will diminish the performance of the athlete and decrease the total effort level of both sides. This study result can be a reference source for the Chinese Taipei Tennis Association, and help the athletes to improve their performance correspondingly.
