Summary: | 碩士 === 世新大學 === 行政管理學研究所(含博、碩專班) === 105 === The purpose of this study is to investigate how leadership behaviors among leaders and job characteristics affect employee happiness in police organizations as well as compare and analyze how research variables differ according to variables in individual profiles. The research methods included a literature review and a questionnaire survey on staff members at the headquarters of New Taipei City Police Department. Among the 235 questionnaires distributed, 230 were collected and 221 of them were valid, constituting a response rate of 96.08%. Data collected from the valid questionnaires was analyzed using the traditional Chinese version of the statistical analysis software SPSS 22.0. The findings of this study are summarized below:
1.The profile variables of the survey respondents, including gender, age, years of service, education, marital status and position and rank, do not contribute to significant differences in employee perceived leadership behaviors of leaders.
2.The profile variable ‘gender’ contributes to significant differences in employee perceived job characteristics while the remaining variables, i.e. age, years of service, education, marital status and position and rank, do not have the same effect.
3.These profile variables, i.e. age, years of service, education, marital status and position and rank, do not contribute to significant differences in employee happiness.
4.As shown by multiple regression analysis, the two research variables, i.e. leadership behaviors among leaders and job characteristics, can predict employee happiness.
Based on the aforementioned results, this study provides the following suggestions. First, demonstration of both considerate and structured leadership behaviors from leaders can help enhance employee happiness. Second, given that job characteristics can significantly influence the prediction of employee happiness and particularly the predictive power of autonomy can explain 46% of variance, the key to improved employee perceptions of job characteristics is greater employee autonomy at work, which will significantly boost employee happiness.
