American war films has a long history, and it also has many topics in this genre films, in addition to relying on Hollywood marketing, the more important thing is how these movies to convey to the audience. In this study, through the narrative analysis, we take the study of two different war periods as the background of the war films, They are respectively the Second World War period and the Iraqi and anti-terrorism war period, and the study of the film text are Wake Island, Bataan Battle, American Sniper, and Act of Valor. The study results that the four films of the two war periods have different narrative characteristics. During the Second World War period, the story is realistic and presented the ideology of satirize with Japanese in the period of World War II, and the view of narrative and time of narrative are being analyzed. In the Iraqi and anti-terrorism war period, the war films emphasize the effect of constantly changing the scene and the scene elements of the binary opposition conflict, and presents a more diverse image of the military and the social ideology of against war. In the narrative point of view, there is no significant difference between the two period war films, but in the use of narrative time, the modern Iraqi and anti-terrorism war film focused on the story of the slow action and the "extension" way to do narrative time clever use of narrative time on the main features. With the narrative analysis of the film, in addition to studying the content of the war movie itself, we can further analysis the war films to bring the audience deep understanding of the inner ideology and perspective. No matter it is antiwar, heroism or soldier characteristics, through the narrative analysis of war films, we can make the audience to think about the meaning of war.
