Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會學系 === 105 === City scale and its influencing factors have been an important issue for social scientists. China 's economy has grown rapidly since economic reform in 1978, and the overall city scale in china has been shaped. Using the data published in 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015 China Urban Statistical Yearbook and Population Census, we found that China’s urban scale has been developed relatively evenly. Roughly, its patterns of development are also congruent with Zipf 's law. However, historical volatility is evidently large for Chinese cities and mega-typed urban development has been inhibited all along. Further, we employed quantile regression analysis to examine the effects of urban endowment, public infrastructure, urban development, urban income, and human capital accumulation on China 's urban scale. Their effects vary in accordance with city size and time factor. Two additional factors that may have important implications for China 's urban scale are included for analysis. One is local government structure and the other the fast expanding transportation system. As a result, we conclude that the development of top cities in China would be suppressed to some extent, and urban agglomerations and large cities are expected to grow more.
