Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會學系 === 104 === Under globalization, the internationalization of higher education has been a trend. Students apply studying abroad programs which supported by government and universities. Therefore, we can say exchange students are the actors of global education.
As for this thesis which include three main topics: first of all, it mentions the transformation of life meaning for exchange students by their cultural taste, lifestyle, cultural capital, self-identity. Moreover, I share my own experience of being an exchange student and the life meaning while studying in the Czech Republic. Last but not least, I focus on the effects for exchange students living abroad.
Two research methods are adopted in this thesis: autoethnography and depth interview. Autoethnography is the thing that I write my own life experience including descriptive and interpretive features. Depth interview for exchange students describes their daily lives and interpretes the meaning of life after their returning to Taiwan.
The feature of the cultural capital for exchange students exists in the“cross-culture”. In this thesis, I use the cultural capital theory of Bourdieu and self-identity and lifestyle theory of Giddens to express my thinking. This thesis makes into conclusion as three characteristics for exchange students as stratosphere, freedom, and desire for advancement. Due to the characteristics, they can evaluate their value of life meaning.
