Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會工作學系 === 105 === Desiring mother’s love is the issue I have in my family of orientation. A complete family had been my hope and goal; however, after becoming a social worker, I have realized that love is easy to understand but difficult to practice and is subjective. A complete family does not mean that the client and his/her family do not have problems or needs. If we use family completeness as a criterion to assess whether a family has problems or needs and expect clients to have the experience of a complete family, we may cause another form of oppression to the clients. Family was a place that hurt me. However, after I established my own family and experienced a different way of family interaction, my life is nourished. Being a helping professional, I accompany clients to face the obstacles in the family and to move on, which enables me to see diverse family styles and the possibility that people other than those stipulated by law can also be one’s family members. Looking back at the past, I once had a complete family and was cared attentively. However, this memory has almost been lost after I witnessed domestic violence and had conflict with my mother. After I learned the helping profession, I transformed to be more soft and flexible. I understood that my mother, who is the first daughter in a Taiwanese farmer’s family, has a childhood of being abused and scolded. I empathized with her and accepted her limited parenting ability. When she was old and sick and needed care, I took care of her and gradually repaired our parent−child relationship. The love I recognize involves the physical, psychological, and social support, understanding, and acceptance. Family is a life community together formed by family members. Parents and children have a distinct boundary and play their own roles on the right position. Family members warmly accompany with each other, providing emotional support and stable living environment for growth. In the helping profession, I accompany clients to practice love in their families. Social welfare center is the small version of social welfare department in communities. As a social worker in the public sector, it is my responsibility to speak out for disadvantaged families. In the future, I expect to compile the common problems and predicaments faced by disadvantaged families, which can be provided for the social welfare center to periodically discuss and cooperate with related authorities. The government should solve the limitations of social structure through legislation and policy making to improve families’ problem solving and innovative development abilities, thereby breaking through the thinking and service model of the residual welfare system.
