| Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 日本語文學系 === 105 === Ethical and moral concept is one of the most distinguishing features in the works of Fumiko Hayashi. Being Live through a vagrant life and influenced by her dissolute mother since her childhood, Fumiko Hayashi growing a bold and unrestrained character. Also bound by the traditional concept under an era of alternately from TAISHO to SHOWA, all of those were reflex in her works.
The present thesis is focused on the extremely active works after World War Ⅱ, which are “The Drifting Cloud” and “The Dark Brown Eyes”, and three other short stories:”Narcissus”, “River Goby” and ”The Female Family”. Deeply analyze to find out the ethical and moral concept the writer gave to the characters. Then analyze her concealing intention under a sociality which the conservatism and progress was mingled together.
The present thesis has been divided into five chapters. The preface, states the motive of the research. The second chapter is “The Drifting Cloud”, which states the separate ethical and moral concept of each character in this book, and also explores the distinction between the male and the female major character. The third chapter, “The Dark Brown Eyes”, states the differences of the ethical and moral concept among three characters in the book. The fourth chapter is about three other short stories, focus on the three characters seeking to free their mind by anti-moral behaviors. And the fifth chapter is the ending.
The object of the present thesis is, through the analysis of ethical and moral concept in the works of Fumiko Hayashi, providing a new aspect for research of her literature, and why Fumiko Hayashi becomes so popular.
