碩士 === 實踐大學 === 工業產品設計學系碩士班 === 105 === The “space age” esthetic was born in the 60’s and 70’s and reflected the peculiar perception society had of the universe which exploration had just begun. Today, with the recent innovations in aerospace technology such as automatic exploration probes or reusable launch systems, the Space Age style is once again under the spotlight. The main goal of this thesis is to reinterpret the visual elements of the Space Age through the scope of contemporary design. This thesis is based on both review of existing literature and case studies. The five studied components of the Space Age esthetic are organized as follows: formal language, color expression, volume arrangement, materials, environment and atmosphere; all of which are then applied to the LOOPS lamps project, made of LED with various lightning programming, in the hope of represent the spirit of the Space Age. The final goal of this lightning design is to improve both comfort and atmosphere of the space we live in today. The multiple lightning programs of the lamps were designed following tests and interviews with users and experts to allow the lamp to adapt to each specific person and environment.
