Summary: | 碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 社會工作與兒童少年福利學系 === 105 === This study focuses on my service and active research at School of Wisdom. I use Aboundant Blessings Community Care Association of Taiwan’s (ABCCAT) School of Wisdom as my subject. The research objectives are as follows: (1) To understand the original motive for creating ABCCAT’s School of Wisdom and its setup process; (2) To obtain insight on School of Wisdom’s effects on service users; (3) To discuss the practices and values of ABCCAT’s School of Wisdom.
I took an active research approach. After entering my field of research as a staff member, I analyzed the contents of my action log, meeting minutes and recordings at School of Wisdom, and depth interviews with the staff and family members of dementia patients. By actually participating in School of Wisdom’s services, gaining an understanding of the setup process through interviews, exploring the value created and gaining personal growth, the research results are as follows:
1、ABCCAT’s organizational culture and original motives influenced the setup process of School of Wisdom, the training mechanism and the design of classes and activities. Thus, ABCCAT’s School of Wisdom is different from others and is not a government funded adult daycare center. Its distinguishing features are the care services offered to small groups as a unit, flexible eligibility criteria, variety in themed activities, a focus on personalized services, strengthened relations with family members, diversification of activity space and the ability to adapt to the needs of family members and elderly dementia patients when necessary.
2、The services offered by ABCCAT’s School of Wisdom satisfies the needs of people with dementia (physiological needs, security needs, social needs, esteem and self-actualization), moreover it reduces the stress of the main caretakers of dementia patients all the while still practicing along the lines of the original motive for ABCCAT to create School of Wisdom.
3、ABCCAT’s School of Wisdom has five core values: (1) Deferring dementia symptoms and the rate of degeneration; (2) Offering breathers to family caretakers and sharing caregiving stress; (3) Providing the needed care information for family caretakers; (4) Connecting family caretakers and social support from the community; (5) Strengthening local support systems for dementia patients.
In conclusion, ABCCAT’s creation of School of Wisdom in the long-term care system is necessary, but it also needs fellow workers and organizations with the same mindset to work together in order to develop local caregiving services for people with dementia. It also needs the government and family members of dementia patients to work hard together.
