Summary: | 碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 美術學系 === 105 === Chinese people’s daily lives and surroundings have been filled with “Auspicious images” with auspicious phrases for thousands of years. It is also the most common way that Chinese people have used to seek good fortune. This method has not changed even up until today. Praying for good fortune and places for prayers are associated to religious occasions and ceremonies. With respect to temples, their inner and outer walls are mostly decorated with wall paintings carved with auspicious images. Different temples have different sizes of wall paintings. In addition, every sculpture has exquisitely rich and detailed fortune-seeking themes. The author once personally inspected the four major Buddhist Temples in Jiuhua Mountain in Anhui Province, Mainland China. He has also visited some famous Daijingu (similar to temples) in Kyoto, Japan, and popular temples in Taipei and the central region of Taiwan. He has recorded and took photos of auspicious images that represent each of the regions. Most auspicious phrases in the auspicious images are originated from Chinese idioms. They are mainly words of blessings. Most of the images are inspired from animals, plants, and deities, which all have artistic meanings of symbolism and figurativeness. They could stimulate people’s unlimited imagination, bringing out multiple blessings of symbolism.
Imagine incorporating the oriental element “lacquer” into a diversity of good-fortune themes of “auspicious phrases” and “auspicious images”, the result will definitely be even more effective. Old lacquer artworks are associated to the simplicity and charm of vintages. Its unique sense of color not only has natural features of adhesion, moisture-proof, decay-resistance, and moth-repellency, but it also is the best natural material for protecting artifacts. The author uses wood base as the drawing board and natural lacquer as the medium. Integrating with the above creative concepts, the creative process of ten pieces of lacquer paintings with auspicious images as the themes were recorded. In addition, there are a total of more than 30 pieces of lacquer paintings and lacquer containers. The created lacquer paintings are of modern style, from which the best painting possibility was explored and investigated. As a result, the lacquer paintworks with auspicious images could become unique works of art presented with a painting style that outcompetes other artworks.
