The ECG surveillance system can decrease the population dying from heart disease effectively for the patients and the elderly with heart disease. Due to the wearable device developing rapidly in recent years and TSMC’s 5nm process of integrated circuit will be in mass production in 2020, the trend of the ECG measuring instrument is developing towards the miniaturization and promotes the IC of miniaturization and low-power. The FIR filter is suitable for filtering and revealing the obvious waveform, but it causes more power consumption. The main aim of research is that how to reduce the power consumption while maintaining the same stable performance, and successfully design the Compass FIR Filter. First of all, Matlab generates 16 coefficients of direct form FIR low-pass filter as the ones of the linear phase form FIR filter. Then, according to the difference equation and using Verilog Hardware Description Language and ModelSim, the 16-coefficient linear phase form FIR filter is completed. Next, using Design Compiler and the TSMC’s 0.18μm Technologies operate Logic Synthesis. Finally, the Design Compiler generates the report of power consumption. Then, according to the entire process and to increase the coefficients of Compass form and linear phase form, total 10 sets of power consumption (M = 16, 32, 64, 128, 256) are completed. According to the report of power consumption, we can clearly realize that the power consumption of linear phase form is 2.0189 mW and the Compass form of one is 4.7972 mW in the less orders (M=16). The Compass form is two times than the linear phase form. However, the power consumption of linear phase form is 28.2112 mW and the Compass form of one is 24.0749 mW in the more orders (M=256). The power consumption of Compass form is lower than the linear phase form of one and the difference is 4.1363mW. Therefore, the dissertation can clearly present that the Compass FIR Filter owns the advantages of low-power consumption and high performance in the high orders under the conditions set in the study.
