For telecommunication network maintenance, we should enhance the user satisfaction of network services and improve the network reliability.
Various protection and recovery technologies are implemented onto the links and nodes for making the network maintenance operate effectively. We develop an approach to evaluate network reliability and detect the weakest sections of the network. The prior researches for evaluating the network reliability were mostly focusing on the network topology rather than the physical layer.
In this thesis, a simplified method that is proposed for evaluating the reliability based on the network transmission paths which are mapped from the logical layer. For analyzing the network model, the focus is on the transmission path rather than the transmission section or node. This method allows to evaluating the network reliability faster and more accurate than the conventional methods.
The network bandwidth satisfaction and reliability is evaluated; and the results indicate that a reduced reliability is obtained for a higher bandwidth demand. By using the proposed method, the maintenance and management unit of the telecommunication networks can analyze and recovery the network rapidly under the situation of network attack.
