Exploring on the internship program-based on the business perspective

Colleges put internship as course credit one after another, and more and more businesses practice internship program. However, not that many literatures have investigated internship program from businesses’ view in the past. This study used in-depth interview on four companies, including one in financial industry and three in high-tech industries. The research investigates the process of implementing the internship program by human resources and acquires their cognition and perspective of the internship program. Furthermore, the study explores the key elements and steps of a successful internship program. The study found three key elements that influence internship programs’ success, including systematic, interpersonal and individual factors. In addition, when firms design and carry out internship programs, they could comply with five steps involving “target”, “system”, “publicity”, “interactivity” and “feedback” that will assist them to implement this kind of program more efficiently. Moreover, the result contains employers’ perspectives and hopes that can give practical reference for industry and academia.
