The value of history is inherited from generation to generation via literatures from ancient to modern times without end. This creation study based on the Compendium of Medical Herbs, a historical paragon compiled by Li Shizhen during the Ming Dynasty through 27 years of efforts. It is known as an immortal masterpiece on Chinese herbal medicine. The purpose of this study was to present micro-design creation through a cross-field physical method based on the herbal medicines in Compendium of Medical Herbs. First of all, the project was submitted to Bioimaging Core Facility, Iop, AS, for review and approval. The facility assigned a dedicated person for assist in the operations of Olympus FV-1000 Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope in order to complete the record of cell patter of herbal medicine by means of observation with microscope. Finally, the study interpreted the cell morphology of herbal medicine via specified ”code” design to engage in the design creation with a creative mode of herbal plant and sampling various cell structures of herbal medicines to deconstruct the morphology, and then translated them into symbols. In this study, the color presented “nature and flavor” as well as “ odor included in the herbal medicines ” ,it emphasized the application of color image of herbal medicines on symbol design. It applied the analysis on visual design morphology. Moreover, the scope of creation study contained 9 items of herbal medicines in Compendium of Medical Herbs. It proposed the property and features of ancient herbal medicines to conduct micro-symbol creation of herbal medicine with meta-language to induce new meta-language. In the meanwhile, it made researches on the creative interaction of light and shadow, sound touch effect etc., to apply five senses to the synesthesia experience. The results of the creation research included presenting the physical characteristics of modern herbal plants listed in the Compendium of Medical Herbs and translating them into visual designs, to explore ancient herbal patterns, and concretize the symbolic design and applications of cells of modern herbs. The result of this creation study produced a design creation of physical phenomena based on the physical image of observing herbal medicines listed in the Compendium of Medical Herb via microscope and translated the cross-field new visual symbol design display. By means of using the pattern of herbal medicine to deduct the modern application of cell symbols. This creative study looks forward to having more profound views about the understanding of herbal medicinal properties of " The Compendium of Medical Herbs " to link and interact with taste color, herbal herbs symbol association, and synesthesia experience as well as extend perception of sound for use of creation of furniture in terms of bringing a new visual feast and inspiring participants to generate creative associations.
