Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 視覺傳達設計學系 === 105 === This study analyzes the navigation design of museum based on geragogy concepts. Aging of societies and the gradual increase of the senior population alter the demand structure. The primary change affecting seniors is aging itself. Aging leads to the degeneration of physical, mental, and cognitive capacities, while changes in vision and field of view affect the receipt of information. In the field of cognitive psychology, learning habits are also altered. Participation in cultural and artistic activities, on the other hand, can help enrichen the lives of seniors. This study aims to gain a better understanding of the specific needs of seniors in the field of museum navigation. Research items include (1) theme display boards on walls in the entrance area, (2) navigation maps of exhibition halls, (3) exhibition introductions, (4) posters, and (5) instruction boards.
The research sample included the National Museum of History, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei, the National Palace Museum, the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, the National Taiwan Science Education Center, and the Taipei Astronomical Museum.
Research was conducted through participatory observation and interviews. The contents of on-site investigations and interviews were then further analyzed on a case-by-case basis. A total of 16 seniors were interviewed and analyzed in a total of 21 pre-test and official interviews. Suggestions for navigation design were developed based on the case studies.
The findings of this study can be summarized as follows:
1. A analysis reveals that the needs of the interviewed seniors are centered around attention, learning, and conveyance of information. Navigation design should focus on these aspects.
2. The results of the analysis of educational practices and procedures for the interviewees including learning processes, learning phases, and advance organizers may serve as a reference for navigation planning. For instance, complete educational practices may be presented in the navigation design.
3. Garacology concepts may be applied to navigation design in a “one concept at a time” fashion. It is easier to match pictures and text if only one concept is presented at a time.
