Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 音樂學系 === 105 === Maurice Ravel(1875- 1937)is one of the representative modern composers in France . He composed “Gaspard de la Nuit” in 1908. These works include three pieces “Ondine”, “Le Gibet” and “Scarbo”. These three pieces are based on Bertrand’s poem. Ravel uses unique musical vocabulary to convey the poetry of symbolism and context. Furthermore, he innovates new compositional technique and harmonic functions to explore new sounds and skills. This work also develops complex piano techniques and diverse color which is set important milestones on French modern piano music.
The first part of this thesis is tracing the “Gaspard de la Nuit” poetry writing background, then discussing Ravel’s piano work’s characteristics and style, also extended observation on the structure and material use of the compositional “Gaspard de la Nuit”. Furthermore, sum up some viewpoints of the association between music and poems.
This work’s main analysis is from the musical structure, material characteristics and motivation and themes of tonality and mode using. Music interpretation of characteristics is summed for each piece of music interpretation, such as melody, rhythm, harmony, and pedals used, as well as discussion on the playing skills of, and finally concludes interpretation viewpoints and on linking use of music and poetry, looks forward to perform the “Gaspard de la Nuit” even more appropriate and clear grasp of.
The thesis is divided into five chapters, the first chapter for introduction, contains research motivation and purpose, and research method and category, the second chapter will trace Ravel of life and his works , the third chapter will research modern France music, and impression, and symbolism and the piano compositional technique of Ravel, the fourth chapter is inquiry “Gaspard de la Nuit” its background, and focus on compositional analysis of melodic material, harmonies changes, structure and form, then apply to music interpretation, the fifth chapter for conclusion, rendering author of research results and the experience.
