Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北大學 === 城市治理英語碩士學位學程 === 105 === The regional productivity disparity is an inevitable consequence in the developing process of Vietnam’s economy. Under the agglomeration effects, it has been impacted by endogenous and exogenous factors. Thus, understanding the linkage between productivity and influence factors is one of the most important tasks for creating sustainable development. Based on a panel dataset of 63 provinces in Vietnam from 2002 to 2012, this research attempts to estimate the elasticity of productivity with respect to employment density while controlling for education attainment, foreign direct investments and some of other dummy variables. The study is conducted under the light of the urban economic theories initiated by Ciccone and Hall 1996, and Ciccone 2002. The visualization technique is used firstly to describe the spatial inequality of labor wage and explanatory variables across Vietnamese provinces. Then the empirical analysis suggests that in the random effects model, doubling the employment density in a province will increase labor productivity by 18.94 percent. The result confirms that the agglomeration of economic activities plays a significant role in increasing the wage level in each province. Beside employment density, education attainment and foreign direct investments have certain effects on the variation of labor wage.
