Major findings are as follows. First, previous period dividend policy has significantly positive effect on bank liquidity creation, while current period dividend policy has significantly negative effect on bank liquidity creation. Results are consistent with the Risk Absorption Hypothesis of Berger and Bowman (2009). Asset quality on previous period is found to have significantly negative effect on bank liquidity creation, while earnings on previous period is found to have significantly positive effect on bank liquidity creation in Taiwan. Second, effects of previous and current period dividend policy, asset quality, earnings and firm size on bank liquidity creation are found significantly different from banks between affiliated or not affiliated with financial holdings companies.
