Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 105 === Through investigating the family history of the twin hall of the Liu Family in Fangliao, Xinpu, Hsinchu, this study aimed to grasp the process and reasons for the ethnicity change during Hakka immigrants’ emigration to Taiwan across the Strait. Second, it explored the ways Hakka people received land resources from Pingpu Tribes through exogamy when crossing the Earthen Ox & Ditch to reclaim. It further probed into the Liu Family’s construction of the twin hall during Japanese colonial period and assimilation of the latest building materials and methods then. The twin hall was later listed as a historic monument not because of its ancientness but of its own characteristics. The development of the sacrifice business in the Liu family also complemented their management of the monument, which was among the few historic sites in Taiwan that were able to sustain their original lifestyle. Finally, based on the operation of such a family monument, suggestions about the restoration of historic monuments were also offered to the government.
