But few researches has been conducted regarding the effects of learning retention. In order to understand the effect of digital game-based learning on learning retention. In this study, an integrated POE strategy and digital game-based learning approach is established. In addition, this experiment has been conducted to evaluate students' learning achievement, learning retention, learning motivation, cognitive load and behavioral pattern in an elementary school mathematics course. This experimental result shows that the integrated POE strategy and digital game-based learning approach not only can significantly enhance the students’ learning achievement and learning retention, but also has no effect on their learning motivation and cognitive load. Moreover, from the behavioral pattern sequential analysis, this study also found that the proposed approach makes students more focus on the learning part of the game. Therefore, integrated POE strategy and digital game-based learning approach is a potential and effective way to help students to learn better.
