Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 心理與諮商學系碩士班 === 105 === This self-narrative study explored the psychological experience of my cross-cultural life as a third culture kid. It carries the purpose of moving towards a holistic understanding of myself as a person within the context of my life experience from the past to the present, with an attempt to eventually answer the questions of “Who am I?” and “Where do I belong?” The story was written according to temporal order, consisting of my cross-cultural experience from elementary school through middle school, high school and college, and my experience of reverse culture shock and adaption upon returning to Taiwan during each stage of life. The text was then analyzed using a “holistic-content” analysis method, and findings revealed five themes related to culture shock and adaptation, self-concept and identity, unresolved grief and loss, reentry and belonging, and returning home. The study concluded with a deeper understanding of my experience and how it has shaped me as a person, guiding me closer towards defining my identity and belonging. Consequently, I was able to be more accepting of myself and my state of being, meanwhile taking a further step to seek new possibilities in the midst of what I thought was unchangeable in my current state of life.
